This signature cultural project weaves together Chinese heritage and tradition through meaningful storytelling, artistic design, and community philanthropy across Canada. This year, the project places one of the most beloved anchors of Chinese heritage at its heart: Mahjong. While the game has seen a massive surge in global popularity for answering a modern craving for tactile, offline interaction in a digital age, its intricate history and traditional craftsmanship are often left behind. Moving with diaspora families around the world, Mahjong represents a beautiful entry point into the culture, deeply embodying Chinese symbols and worldview. This year's design digs deep into the game’s origin story, positioning the Mahjong table as a lively hub for everyday storytelling and a welcoming bridge where generations connect.
Bringing this vibrant spirit to life, the 2026 collector’s tin designed by Palettera honours that legacy and the beauty of handmade tiles. The lid features the iconic “one dot” tile adorned with intricate floral motifs and traditional game symbols, while the tin's rim features titles of famous movies with memorable mahjong scenes, serving as both a beautiful tribute and an educational bridge for younger audiences. As a special bonus this year, every gift set will also include an illustrated guide on “How to Play Mahjong,” based on the Canton style and written in English, to help the next generation get into the game.

Following last year’s sold-out success for the finale event, “A Mid-Autumn Night’s Dream”, Fête Chinoise has announced that this year’s family-friendly community celebration will be hosted at Porsche Centre Markham on September 26, 2026. Since 2021, the ‘Love at Mid-Autumn’ campaign has raised and donated over $272,800 in net proceeds for Canadian charities. In 2026, the net proceeds from mooncake gift set sales will support the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Chinese Canadian Museum, and the Fête Chinoise Cultural Foundation.
Fête Chinoise Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Deborah Lau-Yu, shares, “Our editorial journey with Mahjong began in our 2023 Design Annual and grew at our 2024 Signature Event, where we flew in a master craftsman from Hong Kong to highlight this traditional tile-making craft.
